15: On to the ferry

I used the IJmuiden-Newcastle ferry before for a business trip (the price that KLM want for the Amsterdam-Newcastle ticket was so outrageous, that I decided to go by boat), so I was looking forward to the buffet ;-). When arriving at the terminal, I saw I wasn’t the only bike. A whole English Goldwing club was returning (Goldwing trikes with trailers - shall we call them bikes or not?) and lots of Germans, mostly on F650’s and GS’s. After boarding I found myself lucky to be on the far right side of the ship, so no other bikes could fall on mine. I strapped the bike down with the supplied materials, had some pints of Guinness and a wonderful Scandinavion buffet, and went to bed early - a long day tomorrow was waiting for me, riding all the way to the Isle of Skye in one go…
